This could apply to any town but I’ll use my local town as a marker. You plan to open your hairdressing salon in Maidenhead. You should have started your advertising long before you plan to open (so I’m assuming that’s where you’re at right now.
…….What did you do?…..where did you advertise?
The usual?……OK….Maybe some of it’s acceptable but think of it for a minute. You’re in the same boat as your competition and if a client tries to step into the boat, there will be a bit of a scrap.
Yellow pages, local Maidenhead directory and a couple of the business journals like the Maidenhead Chamber of Commerce. You might think of those breakfast meetings they have but you’re not likely to be the only salon owner there. Still, you need to put yourself about a bit.
Hopefully you brought enough business with you from wherever you worked before so that should pay some bills but if you followed the budget principle I wrote about you should have something set aside for marketing and advertising on a fairly big scale, especially in the first year.
Many people don’t believe in advertising yet they sleep in an advertised bed, eat advertised food, watch advertised movies, wear advertised clothing and on and on it goes. Believe me, a good campaign will take you far but you mustn’t be afraid to spend.
