Art Rains

I'd like to introduce you to a member who is an extremely gifted lady. I asked her to put a few words together but of course, I forgot that she was a she. Here's her few words.

JustynA bit about me and the creation of Art Rains.
(by Justyn Lyn Sweany Wolf)

I have always had an interest in being creative which seems to be in my genes as a result of growing up with parents who are world class artists. My childhood home was a gallery, a stage, an art room, and gourmet "restaurant". So much going on all the time.

I appreciated art and yet never felt "called" in that direction. Instead, I went to Purdue University and got a degree in Geochemistry (after switching from Math as my major.)
Even though I didn't pursue art as a career or serious hobby, I did continue to dabble in creative "crafts" while my 3 sisters actively pursued fine arts education and/or careers.  I just didn't see myself as the "artist" the way the rest of my family were artists.

It wasn't until my children were adults (in the early 2000's) that I recognized what people have described as the latent fine art talent within me that had waited so patiently to be discovered. It started with clay sculpting, then "Oh, my! I can oil paint!"

My mother then introduced me to collaging. That was a blast. We would go to the recycling center and dig magazines out of the bins and bring them home and spend hours cutting out pictures and making our fun creations.

When I became ill from mercury poisoning I was unable to do sit at an easel, or table, or spread magazines out all over the floor, so I started making collages on the computer from my bed on the couch. Mom kept saying  "Can't hold you down!"

My husband would take me out in the wheel chair so I could get outside. We would go on photo "strolls" along the barge canal in Rochester, NY (a branch off of the old Eerie Canal.)

I had long recognized my skill at taking awesome photos even with a very basic, simple “instamatic” camera. I just had “the eye” for composition, subject, lighting, texture, etc.

Recently my husband bought me an SLR camera, and I am just now learning how to use the many features it provides.   Look out world, as I learn the tricks, I expect my photography to blossom even more!!

I use a photo manipulating program on the computer to crop and edit my digital images to make them more pleasing and interesting. I can sit for hours tweaking photos to get the best composition and color adjustments etc.  So much fun!

I LOVE photography and for the first time recently displayed 2 of my photos in a local photography gallery juried exhibit.
I have also had some of my collages displayed in an exhibit in other galleries.

I became interested in Jewelry making (beading and wire wrapping) after years of working as a computer tutor for a dear senior citizen friend who had several necklaces that needed repair. I knew I could do that!   One thing led to another and I started acquiring beads and beading tools and going to bead shows and shops. Slowly building up a lovely inventory of high quality materials.

I was still just dabbling at the "hobby" level. It took a major plumbing disaster in our home, the repair of which looked like it was going to cost $2,000-4,000, to LAUNCH me into high gear of producing various art to help pay for this plumbing project.

I enlarged photos and matted them. I started cranking out jewelry and making note cards. I already had a few of my collage works printed up as giclée fine art prints. It all came together just before the holidays at the end of 2009 in time for holiday sales. I did so well that the in first week of January 2010, I went into "official" business and birthed "Art Rains".

So now I have many items of wonderful quality and beauty that I sell: fine art giclée prints of oil paintings and collages; high quality jewelry with my "trademark" being the unique wire-wrapping that I do; photo-greeting cards (and other cards as well); and photography prints (both matted and unmatted- various sizes- also available framed).

I am looking forward to my health continuing to improve so that my productivity and creativity can increase ... and so that my selection of items available to those interested in high quality art will have Art Rains creations as one of their options for their browsing enjoyment as well as for purchasing for collection sake and gift giving and for that wonderful "feel good" sensations one has when beauty and quality are present in their lives.

I have yet to get an official website up and running for Art Rains. It is in high priority on the list of things to do! But in the mean time I have a public FaceBook page where many of my creations are available for purchase and browsing (you do not need to have a FB account to view this page):
http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=213646&id=289701807976&ref=nf#!/pages/Art-Rains/289701807976

If you sign up as a “fan” on the FaceBook page, you will be notified as new items are added to that page. I would also be able to let you know when my Art Rains (www) page is up and running as well.

I can be reached at
ArtRainsDown@gmail.com if you have inquiries about what else is available or questions on shipping, quantities, sizes, pricing, etc.

Blessings of Art Raining down on all of us!
